正月(Shougatsu) Japanese New Year Celebrations







Japanese new year celebrations are quite different from the wild drunken parties, followed by a Jan 1st hangover! Dec 31st is usually spent at home, watching a selection variety TV to keep you awake until midnight. Then it's time to visit the local shrine to pray for family and general life for the following the year. This was also our plan, however it was too cold so we decided to stay home and get an early night! Jan 1st, the 2 of us went for a 40 min run to work up an appetite before our new years day brunch. The traditional new years food is called 御節料理 osechi ryouri. This food is beautifully presented and meticulously prepared, then usually eaten over the next 4 days. The general consensus though is that besides being a pain in the arse to prepare, as well as expensive, there are much more enjoyable culinary delights to enjoy. The 保野 Yasuno family prescribe to this exact approach and it is carried out with great success. The food was delicious, the alcohol was continually flowing and the most importantly, the company was a pleasure to be with. We ate, drank, ate, drank, and slept. Chihiro also got some tips from her mum on how to wear a Japanese summer kimono. Not a bad way to spend the holidays. Just quietly, something tells me next new year's celebrations will be a little different.

明けましておめでとうございます。
今年はほんまにだらだらお正月を過ごしてます。
30日は、リッツカールトンでケーキバイキング。夜、鍋。
31日は、手巻き寿司。
1日は、サーモン、ローストビーフ、チーズ、餃子、お雑煮、いくら、たらこ、ワイン3本。
夜はおでん。
ケーキ2種類。サーティーワンアイス、2箱。
連日ビール飲みまくり。
もうお腹いっぱい。

1日の昨日からは、腹筋とジョギング30分。

そうそう、1日にボードの用品を見に行ったけど、結局何も買わず。ボードされるかた、どこがいいとか、何がいいとかあります?
もし、いらない物とかあったら、ぜひぜひちょうだい!!!

オーストラリアはレンタルもリフトパスも日本の2倍から3倍の値段がするから、買った方がましかなと思って。。。
